When the data outgrows a single file, Access can link to SQL Server 2022 and remain the user-friendly front end. For several users on a network, the usual pattern is a split database: the tables sit in a back-end file on a shared folder, while each PC runs its own copy of the front end with the forms and reports.

Its strength is speed of development. Databases move between the two versions without conversion. For a new purchase, Access 2024 gives you three more years of Microsoft security updates, so Access 2021 remains an option only when you must match existing 2021 installations.

There is no Access for macOS. Mac users typically run it inside a Windows virtual machine, which needs its own Windows license such as Windows 11 Pro.
64-bit Access is Microsoft’s default and suits most new databases. Stay with 32-bit if your application relies on older ActiveX controls, 32-bit ODBC drivers or VBA API declarations that have not been updated with PtrSafe. All Office apps on one PC must share the same bitness, so match whatever is already installed.
The license is permanent. You pay once, Access 2024 stays activated on your PC, and reinstalling it on the same computer costs nothing extra. Microsoft supplies security and stability updates until October 9, 2029, after which Access keeps running without new fixes. Future major versions are not included.
