This page sells one genuine Windows 7 Professional product key: the 25-character code that activates Windows 7 Professional on a single computer, for life. It reaches you by email with an installation download link and our setup guide, and you pay once with no renewal. We sell it for a narrow set of jobs, and we would rather you read this page and decide it is not for you than buy it for the wrong reason.
Windows 7 Professional was the business edition of Windows 7. Offices standardized on it for a decade, so a large amount of line-of-business software, machine-control software and device drivers was written and certified for it. When one of those programs or devices cannot move to a newer system, a properly licensed Windows 7 Professional installation is often the simplest way to keep it running.
No new ones. Microsoft ended extended support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020, and the paid Extended Security Updates program it sold to businesses finished in January 2023. Updates released before those dates can still be installed, but no fix will ever be published for a vulnerability discovered since then. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge also stopped supporting Windows 7 in early 2023, so current browsers, security suites and many cloud apps either refuse to install or run without protection.
That is why we only recommend this product for computers that are offline or tightly isolated. Connecting an unpatched Windows 7 PC to the open internet for daily browsing, email or downloads exposes it to attacks that were fixed years ago on supported systems. For a general-purpose PC, buy Windows 11 Pro instead. If the hardware cannot meet the Windows 11 TPM 2.0 requirement, Windows 10 Pro still installs and activates, although Microsoft support for it ended in October 2025.
If none of these describes your machine, you will be happier, and safer, on a supported version of Windows.
Windows 7 Professional contains everything in Home Premium (the Aero desktop, the taskbar with jump lists, Windows Media Center and HomeGroup) and adds the tools businesses needed:

For most legacy business machines Professional is the right edition, because it has the domain, remote-access and compatibility tools those programs expect. Choose Windows 7 Ultimate only if you need BitLocker on the offline drive or want to switch the whole interface to another language. Treat the PC as an appliance rather than a desktop. A few habits keep an unsupported system dependable for years:

Windows 7 was built for the hardware of its time. Its setup has no built-in drivers for many USB 3 controllers or NVMe SSDs, many recent PCs no longer offer the legacy BIOS mode it prefers, and Microsoft never supported Windows 7 on Intel 7th-generation, AMD Ryzen or newer processors. It runs best on the period hardware it was designed for, or inside a virtual machine.
Enter the key during setup or afterwards, then activate from Control Panel › System or with the slmgr /ato command. On some PCs the online activation path that Windows 7 was designed around no longer completes, and phone activation is then the reliable route. Run slui 4, choose your country and follow the prompts, and use our Get Confirmation ID tool if you need help with the confirmation code. You pay once and the activated computer stays licensed for as long as it runs Windows 7 Professional, and reinstalling Windows 7 on the same PC is fine. The license covers this version only. It does not include upgrades, and Microsoft has ended the old free upgrade route, so a Windows 7 key will not activate Windows 10 or Windows 11. If you are planning the next controller rather than keeping an old one alive, look at the long-term servicing editions. Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 receives security updates until October 10, 2034, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 until January 13, 2032. Both are designed for fixed-function devices that need a stable feature set, which is the same reason many people stayed on Windows 7.

If slmgr reports that the activation servers are unreachable, check the internet connection and the PC’s date and time, then run slmgr /ato again after a few minutes.
