This is a genuine Windows XP product key for Windows XP Professional: the 25-character code that setup asks for and that licenses one installation, permanently. It is delivered by email with setup and activation instructions, and it is a one-time purchase. Windows XP Professional was released in 2001 and became the standard business desktop for most of that decade, which is why so much hardware and software from that era still depends on it.
We sell it for machines that cannot run anything else: a CNC or embroidery machine controller, a medical or scientific instrument PC, a point-of-sale terminal kept for its records, or a retro gaming build. It is not a sensible operating system for any computer that touches the internet.
Yes. Microsoft stopped selling Windows XP long ago, but genuine Windows XP Professional licenses still exist and you can buy one here. What you cannot buy anywhere is ongoing support from Microsoft: there are no service packs after SP3, no regular patches and no Microsoft help desk for XP. Our own team does provide free activation support, by reply to your delivery email.
Only when it is cut off from the internet. Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014, and apart from a handful of emergency fixes for exceptional worm outbreaks, it has not been patched since. Modern browsers, antivirus programs and current encryption standards dropped XP years ago, so an XP computer browsing the web or opening email attachments today is exposed to attacks that have been public for more than a decade.
Used offline, XP is as stable as it ever was. Keep the machine on its own network segment or completely unplugged, move files on USB sticks that you scan first on an up-to-date PC, and keep a full disk image so a failed drive does not mean a lost production setup. For internet, email and office work, use a supported computer running Windows 11 Pro.
For most legacy jobs it is Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, which is what this key is for. Professional has the networking and security features Home Edition lacks, and SP3 is the final and most compatible service pack. Windows XP Professional x64 Edition was a separate product with its own keys and thin driver support, so most industrial and retro software targets the 32-bit version.

Windows XP is tiny by today’s standards: it needs about 1.5 GB of free disk space, and the whole installer fits on a single CD. Almost any PC built in the 2000s exceeds its requirements.

| Drive | CD-ROM or DVD drive | Booting from USB needs extra preparation |

Windows XP installs from a CD, so a period PC with an optical drive is the easiest target. On machines from the late 2000s, set the SATA controller to IDE or compatibility mode in the BIOS before you start, because the original setup CD has no AHCI drivers and will report that no hard disk was found. Microsoft does not offer a public Windows XP download, so you need a Windows XP Professional CD or an ISO image of one; if you have no media, reply to your delivery email before you begin.
On modern hardware a virtual machine is the better route. VirtualBox and VMware Workstation both support Windows XP guests on a current host PC, give you snapshots to roll back any change, and let you switch the virtual network off completely. Each virtual machine counts as one installation and needs its own license. The step-by-step setup is on the How to Download tab.
Windows XP asks for the product key during setup and then prompts you to activate. Open the activation wizard from the key icon in the notification area, or from Start › All Programs › Accessories › System Tools › Activate Windows, then choose the internet option if the machine is connected or the telephone option if it is not. Activation services for a 2001 operating system are not as dependable as they once were, so if neither route completes, reply to your delivery email. Our support team will help, and a key that fails through no fault of yours is replaced free. General activation help is also collected in our Microsoft product key activation hub.
Windows Vista followed XP in 2007, then Windows 7 in 2009, Windows 8 in 2012, Windows 10 in 2015 and Windows 11 in 2021. If your software runs on Windows 7 but not on anything newer, Windows 7 Professional is the next step up and includes XP Mode, a Windows XP virtual machine for older programs; Windows 7 Ultimate adds BitLocker and language packs. For a new industrial controller, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 is supported until October 10, 2034. For any machine that will be online, skip the legacy versions and choose Windows 11 Pro, or Windows 10 Pro for hardware that cannot meet the Windows 11 requirements.
One payment, one PC or virtual machine, and no expiry date. You can reinstall Windows XP Professional on the same machine as often as you need. The license does not include later Windows versions, and an XP key cannot activate Windows 7, 10 or 11. Our guide to OEM vs retail licensing explains the main license types if you are comparing offers.
Yes, provided the seller is accountable. Old keys attract sellers who vanish once activation fails, so look for a real company, a written refund policy and after-sales support. Kymakers is run by Makers Unity LLC, a Microsoft partner; unredeemed keys can be refunded within 180 days under our refund and returns policy, and a key that stops working through no fault of yours is replaced. Your email contains the Windows XP Professional product key and setup instructions. Microsoft no longer hosts XP downloads, so start with a Windows XP Professional CD or ISO image.
“Setup did not find any hard disk drives” means the SATA controller is in AHCI mode; switch it to IDE or compatibility and restart setup. A key rejected during setup usually means a typo or media for a different edition, such as Home Edition or Professional x64, so check that you are using Windows XP Professional media. Common key errors are explained in Windows key not working?. If activation does not complete by internet or telephone, reply to your delivery email and our team will help you or replace the key.

Installing it took just a few minutes. I was replacing an expired license and this made it painless. No hesitation giving this a full five stars.
Worked out fine, just wasn’t quite instant. My order came through to my inbox almost immediately. It ran smoothly alongside everything else I already had installed. Would recommend, just go in with a little patience.
Kymakers made the whole process easy from checkout to activation. Everything I needed to know was explained in plain language. No compatibility issues at all on my system. The key activated without a single error message. This felt like buying directly from the manufacturer, honestly. Definitely worth it.
Ordered this for my small business and it’s been a great fit. I had a quick question and support answered it fast. On top of that, it ran smoothly alongside everything else I already had installed, and no confusing jargon, just simple step by step directions. This won me over as a repeat customer.
Everything went smoothly from start to finish. Everything I needed to know was explained in plain language. I’ll be back next time I need something like this.
