| Edition | Windows 10 Pro upgrade key (Home → Pro) |
| License term | Lifetime, single payment |
| Devices | 1 PC already running Windows 10 Home |
| Method | In-place edition upgrade, files and apps kept |
| Where to enter it | Settings › Update & Security › Activation |
| Time needed | Minutes, plus one or two restarts |
| Delivery | Emailed, usually within minutes |
This Windows 10 Home to Pro upgrade key changes the edition of a computer that already runs Windows 10 Home. You type it into the Activation page in Settings, Windows unlocks the Professional feature set, restarts, and comes back as Windows 10 Pro with the same desktop, documents and programs. There is no USB stick to prepare, no ISO to download and no reinstallation.
Because the key is meant for an in-place switch, it is the right product when your PC is already set up the way you like it and you simply need Pro tools: BitLocker for a laptop that travels, Remote Desktop to reach the machine from elsewhere, or Group Policy to control how the system behaves. It is a lifetime license for that one computer and is paid for once.
You upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro by entering a Pro key under Change product key in the Activation settings. The short version: press Windows + I, open Update & Security, select Activation, click Change product key next to “Upgrade your edition of Windows”, enter the key, click Next and then Start. The computer applies the change and restarts once or twice. The How to Download tab on this page lists every click, plus what to do if the upgrade pauses or reports an error.
Plan for about ten to fifteen minutes from start to finish on a typical machine. Close open documents first, plug a laptop into power, and keep the internet connection on so Windows can confirm the key with Microsoft.
| Item | After upgrading to Pro |
|---|---|
| Documents, photos, downloads | Untouched |
| Installed programs and games | Still installed and working |
| User accounts, passwords, PIN | Unchanged |
| Wallpaper, settings, Start layout | Unchanged |
| Windows version (22H2) | Same build, now labeled Windows 10 Pro |
| New in Settings and Control Panel | BitLocker, Remote Desktop host, Hyper-V, Windows Sandbox, Group Policy, domain join |
A backup before any system change is good practice, but the edition switch itself does not touch personal data. Nothing is removed; features are only added.
Confirm what your computer runs before buying, so the key matches. Open Settings › System › About and read the Edition line, or press Windows + R and type winver.

We sell and support this listing as an in-place upgrade. If you are building a PC from scratch, the full Windows 10 Pro key is the product designed for that job, and its download tab covers USB installation.
It is worth it when you need a specific Pro tool on a PC that will keep running Windows 10, and less so if you only browse and stream. Be aware of the timeline: Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, and the consumer ESU program, which extends security updates for Home and Pro alike, finishes on October 12, 2027. Upgrading to Pro adds features, not extra years of patches. Our articles on Windows 10 end of support and Windows 10 ESU explain both dates.
Good reasons to upgrade now:
Not sure which Pro tools you would actually use? Our side-by-side look at Windows 10 Home and Pro helps you decide.
Yes, there are two routes, and this key covers the first. Route one: upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro now with this key; later, on hardware that meets the Windows 11 requirements, the activated Pro installation typically moves to Windows 11 Pro free and keeps its digital license. Route two: take Microsoft’s free upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 11 Home first, then apply a Windows 11 Home to Pro upgrade key. If your PC passes the Windows 11 check today, route two avoids buying a Windows 10 key at all. If it does not pass, route one gives you Pro now. The full process is in how to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11.
Yes. You pay once and the PC keeps Windows 10 Pro activated for good, with no renewals. After the upgrade, Microsoft records a digital license for Pro against that hardware, so reinstalling Windows 10 Pro on the same computer normally reactivates automatically; keep your key email as a backup. The license stays with that machine, and a new motherboard is treated as a new PC. Like every lifetime license we sell, it does not entitle you to future Windows versions.
An upgrade key should come from a seller that will still answer after the sale. The store behind it, Kymakers, belongs to Makers Unity LLC, a Microsoft partner. Every key can be refunded within 180 days if you have not redeemed it, a key that stops working through no fault of yours is replaced free, and activation help is one reply away. There is nothing to download: your upgrade key and guide arrive by email, and the switch happens inside Settings on your current Windows 10 Home PC.
Error 0xC004F050 (invalid key): retype the key carefully and confirm the PC is on Windows 10 Home, not Windows 11. The upgrade seems stuck: leave the PC powered and online; if nothing moves, restart and enter the key again. It says “already activated” but still shows Home: re-enter the key under Change product key and choose Start to trigger the edition change specifically. The key took a bit to come through, which was slightly frustrating, but it worked in the end. Activated without a hitch. Everything validated fine. Much cheaper than going through Microsoft, and it’s completely legit.

The download link and key showed up in my email really fast. Followed the instructions on the site and it activated without problems. Asked a question via chat and got a response pretty fast. Recommended.

Would recommend this to anyone looking for a cost-effective licence. Installation and activation took maybe 10 minutes total.
